The other day I was looking on pinterest for ideas for my dorm room and I came across a super cute bed side table that had books stacked on it. One of the books that was stacked on the shelf was a Bible. That got me thinking that I really wanted to bring a Bible to college with me for when I need some inspiration. However, I didn't want to bring my Bible from my first communion because I don't want anything to happen to it or go missing. Therefore, I went on Amazon and bought a new Bible (click here) that I wouldn't mind painting on to make it fun and match my room colors.
When the Bible arrived I started to do some research to find what to paint on it and that is when I came across Hosanna Bibles (click here). This website gave some ideas and also if any of you want a new Bible I highly recommend looking at Hosanna Bibles because she paints some awesome designs on them and I am pretty sure they are all hand painted! Also she doesn't just paint Bibles! Anyway, after coming cross this website I then started to make my design.
How I painted my Bible:
Step one: I taped off the edges on my Bible. Try to make this as straight as you can because this determines if you will have straight lines or not. Also make sure that your tape is all the way down because sometimes paint can get under it if not. After you tape off the edges, you paint the bind of the book. You will need multiple coats of paint for this step. Once the paint dries remove your tape slowly.
Step two: Since I chose to do strips you need to tape down your strips (this is taping down every other strip). Once again make these as straight as possible and make sure the tape is all the way down. Now paint your strips that do not have tape. As you paint during this step your strokes in the beginning will be very streaky so just be patience and do lots of coats. Once the paint dries remove the tape slowly.
Step three: NOW TIME TO PAINT YOUR DESIGN! What ever design you chose to paint it is now time to add that! I chose to do Lilly Pulitzer inspired roses in a circle and a famous Bible quote on the front.
(OPTIONAL) Step four: After my design dried I went back and scratched off the paint that was covering "Holy Bible." I did that by just scratching it off with a mechanical pencil.
Step five: Since I chose to do the quote on the front I then added the verse where it came from on the side of the Bible.
Step six: Now add any final touches you have to make and let it dry! Finally enjoy your Bible or book!
