At the beginning of summer my Mimi, Mom, and I all took a trip to Paris. While we were in Paris we noticed that succulent plants were very popular there. I honestly have never heard of a succulent until Paris and I just thought that they were the most awesome plant! Then the other day I was walking into Whole Foods, a local grocery store, and saw that they were selling succulent plants. And of course I just HAD to get one! However, I wasn't quite sure how to take care of it. For example how much sun it needed and how much do I water it or if I water it at all. So, I started to do my research!
As I was doing my research I found that most people think that they barely have to water a succulent plant BUT, this is totally false. However, if you over water it that could kill the plant as well. Succulent plants like to have their roots wet but, their roots also tend to dry out rather quick. When you water your plant you want to do more than just spray it was a spray bottle. In fact, you should give it quite a bit of water, enough water where it will go all the way to the bottom where the roots are. Be careful you don't over water it though. The trick to watering your succulent is also that you do not water it everyday. Wait until there is no water left in the soil before you water it again because like I said before giving it to much water could kill it.
Now, how much sunlight does your succulent need? Your succulent needs about six hours of sunlight a day. This may seem like a lot but just put it in a room where it can get lots of sun or place it near a window. However, once again to much sun could kill it. Just make sure it doesn't dry out. If your succulent isn't getting enough sun it will start to become stretchy.
I know this seems like a lot to remember but, its not as much work as it seems. They are super cute and make for a great decoration! I love mine and I hope everyone goes out and gets one!
XOXO,
Caroline
