Traveling is something my family and I have always loved to do! However, my first time traveling alone was last fall when I went to college. My first semester of college I didn't have my car, therefore I had to fly every time I wanted to go home. Throughout my first semester I traveled more times than I could count. Between Thanksgiving, fall break, random trips home, and Christmas I picked up a few tips traveling alone. However, I have to admit the first time I flew alone I was nervous. I don't think my hands stopped shaking until I finally reached my gate.
Make a Schedule and Stick to It |
I can not stress how important it is so plan out your schedule. I personally like to be at the airport a hour and 30 minutes early just in case security takes longer than expected. With that being said I leave an additional 30 minutes early to get to the airport. The airport is only about 15 minutes from campus, but traffic in Nashville is usually pretty bad so sometimes it can take the whole 30 minutes.
Take a Deep Breath |
Be sure to remain calm because traveling alone is not as stressful as you think! Once you reach your gate you will look back on your experience and think, "WOW, that was not as bad as I anticipated!" Therefore, just remain calm because you can do it!
Check in at Your Airlnes Desk |
This should be your first stop when you first arrive to the airport. They will print out your tickets for you, if you haven't already done so, and you can check in your bag! Also make sure you have your ID! They will not let you fly without it!
Bring a Water bottle |
If you chose to bring a water bottle make sure it is empty when you arrive to the airport or else it wont make it through security. I choose to bring a water bottle because it saves money and it is super easy to fill up at a water fountain.
Bring a Charger / Portable Charger |
I personally only bring a charger because all the chairs have outlets at the airport in Nashville and Atlanta where I have a connecting flight. However, if your airport does not have outlets in the chairs be sure to bring a portable charger because my phone always ends up dying when I travel.
Ask for Help |
Some airports, like Atlanta, can be confusing at times. Don't be afraid to ask someone for help! It could make your traveling experience a lot less stressful!
XOXO,
